JOB SUMMARY:
This position will work under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager. Within this general framework, specific duties will vary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare foods for meal service utilizing safe food handling practices and program procedures
- Operates, cleans and maintains kitchen equipment safely as instructed
- Collect cash and operate a computerized keyboard and computer
- Count and balance cash and prepare deposits
- Accurately completes production records
- Ensures that customers are able to move through serving lines expeditiously
- Assists in maintaining a safe, healthful environment in the lunchroom area
- Assists other employees in preparing for meal service and cleaning of kitchen area
- Prepares serving lines/carts for service where necessary
- Stores left-over food as directed
- Serves meals to customers, assuring program standards are met
- Cleans tables, carts and work area
- Wash dishes, pots and pans and be able to safely operate and clean dishwasher
- Assist with other food and nutrition related duties as assigned by the kitchen manager
- Accurately use computer systems necessary to complete job duties
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Communicate effectively, positively and professionally with administration, staff and students in oral and written form
- Maintain confidentiality and display ethical behavior
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a State Food Handler’s Permit
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Possess good mathematical skills
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Knowledge of and ability to apply basic child nutrition guidelines and requirements
- Must be able to serve food across serving area
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time on a hard surface
- Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials and safe work practices
- Must be able to read, write and do mathematics for keeping records and reports
- Must have ability to get along with students, co-workers, and building staff
- Must maintain continuing education credits to meet USDA professional standards

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
A person working in this position will exert 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly while carrying, pushing, and/or pulling to move objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. The employee frequently uses chemicals in the performance of this job. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.
Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
